Car Exhaust Repair & Replacements

Cockburn Auto Electrical Services can carry out all servicing and repairs
to all modern cars including electrics and engine diagnostics.

There are no moving parts in an exhaust system, but it’s an integral part of your car and performs major functions such as;

•Keeps your car ‘street legal’ keeping noise under control
•Direct exhaust fumes away from your passengers
•Improves engine performance and fuel consumption

An exhaust is made up of the following parts (if your exhaust is ‘blowing’ meaning there is a whole in the system somewhere, you may need to have every part replaced, only the affected one);

The exhaust manifold acts as a funnel, collecting exhaust gases and fumes from the engine cylinders, then releasing them through this single opening, known as the front pipe.

Many modern exhausts now have a catalytic converter. These are designed to reduce carbon monoxide as well as hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides, both of which contribute to smog and are thought to irritate human nasal passages etc.

The silencer box is specifically designed to absorb sound, and you may find you have more than one box on your car. These silencer box or boxes reduce the noise from your car to acceptable legal and environmental levels.

The tail pipe is the part of the exhaust that extends out from the back of your car. It lets the gases escape from your car into the atmosphere.

You need a fully functioning exhaust system – without any holes – to remove gases from the engine that have been created by combustion within the engine.

If you feel that your exhaust is becoming noisy or rattling, bring your car to us here at Cockburn Auto Electrical Services in Falkirk.
